THE RED LION CHRONICLES
Winter 2009-2010

Hello Red Lion fans!!  It’s October 20, 2009, which means it is exactly one month and counting down to the opening day of Vail Mountain for the 2009-2010 ski season;  ten years since Y2K…that is how fast ten years has gone by.

The Red Lion has had a great summer and the fall crowds have been amazing.  Weekend nights have continued to be “full bar”…really fun.  We are grateful you keep coming!

PHIL LONG & ENTERTAINMENT @ THE RED LION
Phil Long has continued performing throughout the off-season playing Thursday-Saturday in October and will play Fridays and Saturdays only in November till the mountain opens on November 20th.  Performance times are 7:30-11pm.

Phil begins his 23rd year of après ski at 4pm. on November 20th….BE THERE!!!  Phil performs two shows a night Wednesday-Saturday 4-6pm & 9-11pm.   As always, check the “Running Ticker” and the “Entertainment Schedule” on the website for any changes to his schedule.  Thanksgiving week and the week or so around Christmas and New Year’s Eve are especially good times to check his schedule on-line.

THERE ARE TABLES AVAILABLE FOR RESERVATION FOR THE PHIL LONG SHOW EACH NIGHT.  THESE RESERVATIONS GO QUICK, SO CLICK ON “PHIL LONG SHOW RESERVATIONS” FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Brendan McKinney is on The Red Lion entertainment team again this year.  You can find him Sunday-Tuesday doing the same split-time entertainment schedule that Phil does.  Brendan is an accomplished cover artist and entertainer.  In addition, he has signed with a Nashville based record label and is out promoting his new CD.  Be sure to ask him when he’ll be in your area.

GRAB & GO!
The Red Lion plans to offers a Grab and “Go To Go” starting at 8am. (We hope for a Thanksgiving weekend start).  We will feature homemade breakfast burritos, coffee, chocolate milk, juices, snacks and lots of stuff for your ski packs to hold you over till lunch time.  In addition, we will have a few of those items you always forget in the condo. Gators, hand warmers and some of the other ski necessities to get you started on the right foot with your ski day will be available.  This will truly be “Grab and Go”.  Our goals are, no lines, help yourself to most items, swipe your credit card and you are on your way.  You are welcome to help yourself to a spot on our deck to eat a burrito and click your eyes open with a cup of coffee but you are on your own as there is no table service before 11am. This is a credit card only purchase zone.  Our employees will have no cash on hand to make change.

BEHIND THE BAR
Gerry and his staff have a brand new drink menu to offer this season.   We have added Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on Draft.  The specialty drink menu has been updated and includes the favorites from last season with the addition of some very tasty and slightly “high maintenance” offerings for this season.  Noelle and Scott (Weasel to most of you) have two original features you’ll have to try! Noel’s drink, “Cuke as a Cucumber”, is a Mojito style drink, with muddled basil and cucumber. It is really one of the finest cocktails I have tasted in a while.  Weasel  has struck gold with his original “Killer Espresso”.  This is made with Grey Goose Espresso Vodka.  It tastes like a non-frozen mudslide, served  “really chilly” like a martini. They goes down too easy.

Chef James in the Kitchen
Chef James and his team in the kitchen make sure there is always something new to choose from for the ski season.  This year he has outdone himself.  SMOTHERED BURRITOS!!  A native to San Antonio TX, he has been dying to place these on the menu for years.  These are the kind of burrito you crave for from your favorite “hole in the wall” Mexican restaurant.  Sure to be our next big seller, you can choose either ground beef or chicken.
Our next features are 21 day, wet-aged steaks  from “Sterling Silver”.  The 16oz. “Cowboy Ribeye” is a meticulously trimmed bone-in cut that will satisfy all the criterion of the classic steak lovers in your group.  Our other feature is a “Center-Cut Sirloin”.  This 8oz. cut eats like a filet, is lean like a New York and has the flavor of a Ribeye without the marbling.  Along with one of our fine bottles of wine this will taste like 5 stars all the way.

We want to personally thank James and Heath for their excellence in the kitchen.

New Year’s Eve
Why I am thinking about it..  New Year’s Eve is around the corner.  We have sold out in less than 2 hours for the last 2 years.   This is how it works.  Dec. 30th @ 8am tickets go on sale.  You can come by The Red Lion and buy your tickets in person or you can call us @ 970-476-7676 and pay for your tickets with your credit card.  All seats are first come first serve no matter how much you bribe us! On New Year’s Eve,  we finish up après ski @ 6pm and clear the room by 6:30pm.  Doors open around 7:30pm with a full menu being served until we are sure you have all had enough to eat. Our apps menu is available nearly all evening.  The Phil Long show begins around 9pm.  Eat drink and be merry all night long with us.  Only 300 tickets are sold and once they go, they are gone.  Always a great time, this event has been a sell out for 20 years in a row!  Please, 21 and over only , for New Year’s Eve.

We are excited to see you!!
